HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The second annual Washington County Farmer?s Market summer food drive was an unquestionable success, officials said.
Benefiting the Tualatin Valley Gleaners, this supplemental food program is designed to provide food, aid and other assistance to the low income and disabled individuals in the Tualatin Valley area.
Eleven different Washington County Farmer?s Market locations participated, and the donations amounted to $1051 in cash and tokens. The total amount of food gathered from all of the Washington County Farmer?s Markets was 3,932 pounds.
In addition to canned items and fresh produce bought from the market vendors, donations included such items as:
- food for pets
- personal supplies (deodorant, diapers, shampoo)
- condiments (mayo, ketchup, soy sauce, syrup)
- protein foods (canned tuna, chicken and other meats)
When: From 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays (through Nov. 17) and from 3-6 p.m. Wednesdays (through Aug. 29)
